What I did with my Dad’s favorite shirt after he passed

After my Dad passed, there were a few things I couldn’t bring myself to pack away.

One of them was his favorite shirt.

It still carried him in a way I can’t fully explain—the feel of it, the familiarity, the memories tied to something so simple. And like so many people navigating loss, I found myself asking a quiet but heavy question:

What do I do with this?

Handmade memorial journal created using a loved one’s favorite shirt and handcrafted paper.

I didn’t want to donate it.
I didn’t want to store it in a box.

Neither option felt right.

Because this wasn’t just clothing—it was him.

So instead of letting it disappear into a closet or a container, I chose to preserve it in a way that allowed it to stay close… not just physically, but meaningfully.

I used my Dad’s favorite shirt as the inside cover of a journal.

Something I could hold.
Something I could return to.
Something that didn’t feel like letting go.

There’s something powerful about keeping a piece of someone in a way that becomes part of your everyday life.

Not hidden away.
Not forgotten.
But carried forward.

For me, it transformed something painful into something grounding.

It gave me a place to write, to reflect, and to feel connected—without needing to explain it to anyone else.

That experience is what eventually became Continuing Bonds.

Not from a place of business—but from a need to hold onto something that mattered.

Because sometimes, the smallest pieces are the ones we can’t replace.

If you’re holding onto something and unsure what to do with it… you’re not alone.

There’s no right answer.

Only what feels right to you.
